Robin Hood and Archer – The Bow and Arrow
The subject of many stories and films, Robin Hood is a famous fictional English hero (and an amazing archer). The subject of an animated television show, Sterling Archer is a hilariously irreverent and fictional American secret agent (and a prodigious drinker). A 2015 creation from Scott Teague in New York City, the Bow and Arrow is a cocktail worthy of your attention. Muddle and Monger on Instagram introduced me to it.

The Bow and Arrow
1 ounce mezcal
1 ounce bourbon
.75 ounces lime juice
.75 ounces pineapple juice
.5 ounces super simple syrup
Directions
Combine in a shaker with ice, shake with the power of Robin Hood or Archer dispatching their enemies, and strain into a chilled glass, preferably a coupe. Lime twist garnish optional.
Bourbon and mezcal seem like an odd combination. They pair nicely in the Bow and Arrow, as they do in other drinks such as the Renegade. Unlike the boozy Renegade, half of the Bow and Arrow is non-alcoholic. Combining pineapple and lime juices, as you do in my When Ernest Met Mary or the Matador, gives the Bow and Arrow some sharp citrus flavor, and of course the super simple syrup gives it a touch of sweetness.
Whether you prefer Robin Hood, Arrow (a superhero character Ms. Cocktail Den told me about), or Archer (who to some extent is a parody of James Bond), the Bow and Arrow is a drink you want to put in your cocktail quiver.
